If you’ve ever had a dinner party, you know that one of the most annoying things can be a tablecloth that won’t stay in place. A nicely dressed dining table often contains a tablecloth, but how can you keep it from sliding? If you’re tired of your tablecloth shifting and sliding every time you sit down to a meal, don’t despair. Our crew has researched to find ingenious ways to keep this from happening. Each of these suggestions will help you keep your beautiful table setting looking its best.
A few steps
- Place some rubber
Laying a non-slip mat across the table, under the tablecloth, is a sure-fire way to ensure that the fabric doesn’t move. Cut-to-length mats are recommended, and base them lengthwise on the table if it is large enough for them to cover the entire length – if it is not large enough, base them partway down.
- Make sure to use heavy centrepieces
A key to protecting your table cover is to utilise heavy decorative items, such as vases, bowls, and stones. Scattering some heavy and beautiful centrepieces, glass-topped vases, bowls, stones on the tablecloth is a simple approach.
- Tie it
To create a casual look, tie each corner of a tablecloth to the table legs, if fabric length permits. A simple single knot works nicely as long as the material isn’t too silky. Alternatively, try wrapping a wider ribbon several inches below the tabletop to create a voluminous skirt-like effect. Secure the tablecloth’s corners to the legs with lengths of tulle, forming bows or rosettes.
- Clip it
Remedy a slipping outdoor – or indoor – table cover by thread-covered wood clothespins, disguising and blending their colours for a realistic effect. Alternately, use metal clamps disguising them with spray paint of the same shade or apply brown jute cord.
