Plastic PVC or oil cloth tablecloths are a great option for big parties that require a lot of tables. They’re economical and disposable, making clean-up relatively easy. However, there is nothing like spending time planning a party only to find out that your plastic tablecloths have wrinkles or creases.
Fortunately, there is a number of things you can do to solve this problem.
Step 1: Hang the tablecloths on a clothesline.
If you’re throwing a party, you will need to remove the wrinkles and creases from a number of tablecloths. A day before the party, hang the tablecloths on a clothesline. If you have a few tablecloths, start doing his 2 days before to ensure you have enough time, and in case you don’t have enough space to hang them.
Step 2: Use a hair dryer with a low-temperature setting to get rid of the wrinkles.
Hold the dryer about 8 inches above the cloth. Move the heat back and forth over the tablecloth and smooth out the fabric with your hand. Do not let the hair dryer get too hot or too close to the tablecloth or you might burn a hole in it. This method is especially beneficial if you have a second set of hands to carefully smooth the wrinkles out as you heat them with the hair dryer.
Step 3: Steam
Place a warm, damp towel on any particularly tough wrinkles and smooth out the towel with an iron. This simple act will cause the towel to generate steam, and once you’ve exposed the tablecloth to this steam, the wrinkles will start to loosen up. Take care not to burn yourself when working with the towel, as it will get very hot.
When you take the cloth off to be stored, it is best to roll the tablecloth to avoid it being creased the next time you use it.
